The staff at the Frye Art Museum recently announced an expansion of the "Small Frye" story time program to incorporate story-dramas presented by Seattle Children's Theatre, which will occur on the first Friday of each month. Since the museum's drop-in program began last spring, it has delighted children ages 3 to 5 years old with classic children's stories and contemporary favorites.
The free program takes place in the museum's galleries, located at 704 Terry Ave. in Seattle, from 11:15 to 11:45 a.m. It introduces kids to words and sounds that prepare them for reading and writing. By connecting Small Frye themes to the exhibitions when possible, the children and their parents or caregivers also learn about art and can explore the museum after story time is over.
Through the partnership with Seattle Children's Theatre, kids at Small Frye will act out an imaginary journey that leads to the reading of that month's book. Using props, sound and movement, the children will experience the books using their own imagination.
