2026 Unsung Heroes

Marysville dad doesn’t hesitate to ask for help | Unsung Hero

Baron Li of Marysville is determined to support his own family and others as well.

Seattle’s Child is proud to partner with the state Department of Children, Youth and Families Strengthening Families Washington to honor outstanding caregivers doing important work on behalf of children. Throughout February, we’ll introduce you to Unsung Heroes from around the state. Enjoy their stories.

Baron Li, Marysville

Baron Li’s motto is “Life may knock me down, but it can’t keep me down.” That belief is not symbolic: It is how he parents, serves his community and leads through adversity.

As the primary caregiver to his son, Arik, who lives with complex medical and developmental needs, Baron demonstrates exceptional parental resilience. Despite surviving an abusive childhood in foster care, homelessness and a near-fatal attempt on his life, Baron consistently responds to stress with determination, adaptability and compassion.

Baron understands the importance of strong social connections and has intentionally built a network of medical providers, advocates, educators and community partners to support his son’s development. He actively seeks and coordinates concrete supports in times of need, modeling that asking for help is an essential strength, not a weakness.

Through lived experience, Baron has developed deep knowledge of parenting and child development, particularly for children impacted by trauma and disability. He meets his son with patience, empathy and encouragement, demonstrating outstanding social and emotional competence in everyday parenting moments.

Beyond his own family, Baron gives back by mentoring and employing young adults who have aged out of foster care, using his business to create stability, job training and purpose. In addition, he is building a community movement focused on connecting families and caregivers to resources, support systems and hope.

Baron doesn’t just protect his own family’s well-being: He helps other families build the same resilience that saved his life.
