An elite new private school is coming to the Puget Sound area.
BASIS Independent Schools says it has chosen a site in Bellevue to establish and open its 10th U.S. campus in the fall of 2022.
The Bellevue site, meant to serve the entire Seattle area, is a 6-acre property where The Jewish Day School of Metropolitan Seattle is located. (However, that school will continue to occupy part of the property for the time being.) BASIS says it will build a state-of-the-art educational facility with academic and administrative buildings, an athletic center and outdoor areas.
The school will open in fall of 2022 with grades 3-7; the plan is to expand to all high school grades over the next five years.
About BASIS Independent
The BASIS curriculum is centered on an advanced liberal arts and STEM approach.
The primary grades are structured so that each classroom has two teachers: a learning expert and a subject expert.
BASIS has schools in New York City, the San Francisco Bay Area and the Washington, D.C., vicinity. In addition, the school has an international focus and, in fact, the Head of School for BASIS Bellevue, Elizabeth Thies, will be relocating here after serving a similar role for BASIS in Bangkok.
The company cited increasing demand for options in K-12 education, plus the presence of top international companies in the area as reasons for coming to the Puget Sound region.
In fact, BASIS Independent Schools President Matt Dick said the school already is receiving interest from families “seeking an innovative, holistic program with high expectations.”
A series of virtual information and admission events at the new private school begins at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 28. In addition, private tours will be available by request. Also, families can learn more or join the school’s interest list by going to its website.
