Seattle-area family theater guide: fall 2019

8 fantastic performances to take the family to see this fall

 

Seattle has an amazing theater scene, with venues ranging from Broadway-sized theaters to tiny avant-garde spaces. And there’s lots of great fare for young audiences, and not just at Seattle Children’s Theatre, though it does help to have one of the top kids’ theaters in the country in town. Here’s what you can see this fall.

 

The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee

Village Theater, 303 Front St, N, Issaquah | Sept. 12 through Oct. 20

And

Village Theater, 2710 Wetmore Ave, Everett | Oct. 25 through Nov. 17

Age recommendation: there is some swearing and talk about puberty, so treat it like a PG-13 movie.

 

Faeriestruck

Annex Theatre, 1100 E Pike St | Oct. 25 through Nov. 23

Age recommendation: whole family

Using puppets made using recycled materials, this play recounts a tale of fairies and changelings.

 

Corduroy

Seattle Children’s Theatre, 201 Thomas St | Nov. 21 through Dec. 29

Age recommendation: 3+

The story of a bear who explores a department store at night, loses a button and finds a home comes to life in this show designed to connect with all ages. ASL interpreted, audio-described, and sensory-friendly special performances available.

 

Mrs. Doubtfire

The 5th Ave Theatre, 1308 5th Ave | Nov. 26 through Dec. 29

Age recommendation: 8+

A musical based on the 1993 film that starred Robin Williams as a man impersonating a British nanny in order to spend time with his own children.

 

Stomp!

The Moore Theatre, 1932 Second Ave., Seattle | Dec. 3-8

All ages

The "international percussion sensation," known for making music with everything but traditional instruments.
