Seattle Parks Departmentās annual Big Day of Play on Saturday wonāt be like any other in the past.
The coronavirus pandemic makes it impossible to have a big in-person shindig at Rainer Community Center. But it does have one thing in common with extravaganzas of yesteryear.
It will be big.
Classes, games and performances
The celebration will have virtual classes, interactive games and performances from noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday. Hereās the schedule.
All these things will run on available on cable TV, radio, online and on Zoom. Here are the details on where to find it.
In preparation, the Parks Department is giving out free play kits packed with jump-ropes, sidewalk chalk and other goodies.
Here are two places to pick up kits:
– Lake City Court from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday
– Othello International Festival from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday
Another part of the festivities is a virtual wellness fair, that will host a variety of local organizations.
And participants have the chance to win prizes.
Signature event
āBig Day of Play is our signature event at Seattle Parks and Recreation,ā said Christopher Williams, deputy Superintendent, in a press release. āThis free event supports community members in enjoying the health benefits ā both physical and mental Āā of connecting with others through active recreation, and it helps show adults and kids how much fun there is to be had in our parks and open spaces.ā
