I have worked with Jennifer for over 2 years. She is my assistant at Lopez Children's Center. Jennifer and Asa took in her 4 nephews 3 years ago. The boys are 1st grade, 3rd grade, 4th grade and 5th grade because their parents were living an unhealthy lifestyle. The last year the boys were in their parent's care they missed 60 days of school.
Jennifer and Asa went through training to be registered foster parents. The staff at Lopez Elementary School can attest to the change in the boys. Simply proper parenting and loving the boys has brought life and health back to them.
Through a lengthy process they were just allowed to adopt the boys the beginning of December 2015. It was such a cause for celebrating! I have the privilege of spending time with this family and I marvel at the growth and confidence this young couple have brought to these boys. They smile, they laugh, they play with joy! I can think of no greater reason than to nominate Jennifer and Asa as my unsung heroes.
