If my kids had it their way, every day would be Grandparent’s Day. A trip to “Baba’s” house is like winning the childhood jackpot: all the toys, all the ice cream, all the bedtime stories. There simply aren’t many people in this world who make children happier.
This weekend is the perfect opportunity to show appreciation for the grandest people in our lives. September 9 is Grandparent’s Day, and a few museums are offering free admission for grandparents. So round up the whole family and celebrate!
Grandparents’ Day at Pacific Science Center Build together in Tinker Tank, explore the butterfly house or learn the science of music. Grandparents are free with the purchase of a youth ticket. Regular admission is $23.95, $21.95 seniors, $17.95 ages 6 to 15, $13.95 ages 3 to 5, free ages 2 and younger. Downtown Seattle.
Northwest African American Museum Grandma’s bedtime stories are the best, aren’t they? Bring Grandma and Grandpa to NAAM for a day of storytelling, arts and crafts, movies and a special treat from the Seattle Symphony. 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Free admission. Judkins Park area.
Grandparents’ Grand Excursion Take Nana and Papa for a ride aboard the Northwest Railway Museum’s antique train. A grandparent rides free with a paying grandchild of any age. Regular admission is $20, $16 seniors, $10 ages 2 to 12, free ages 2 and younger. Snoqualmie.
