If you haven’t seen this video, be warned: it’s a parent’s worst nightmare (one of many, actually). On Friday, an SUV illegally passed a school bus in the Graham area of Pierce County and nearly hit several elementary school children waiting to board, the Tacoma News Tribune reports. The Bethel School District released the video from several angles.
It happened so fast, it’s amazing none of the kids was hurt, or worse. In one of the videos, you can hear a shocked child getting on the bus say, “I almost got ran over!”
The bus driver asks: “Are you OK? Are you OK?”
“He almost ran over my foot!” is the reply.
KING 5 talked with two of the mothers of the children, who saw the near miss. The SUV grazed the shoe of a 5-year-old girl, who said she “felt the wind” as the vehicle blew past.
The video really does just make your jaw drop, whether you’re a parent or not. Who passes a stopped school bus, on the right, between the open door and a group of little kids? Really?
And according to the TNT story, the district says it’s a problem out in Graham. “We have a lot of people that pass buses illegally,” a spokeswoman told the newspaper. Come on, people. That could be your child, or your niece or nephew, or grandchild, or your neighbor’s kid. Consider this your PSA reminder to stop for a stopped school bus.
