Kim LaMarche, Yakima (nominated twice)

Kim is a selfless, nurturing and resourceful mother.

Kim has had the responsibility of a medically fragile youth since they were just a few weeks old. Kim works in special education and is always coming up with new and adaptive ways for her youth to engage with their peers. This youth has consistent seizures, premature blindness and is mostly confined to a wheelchair. Through many sleepless nights, emergency room visits, and doctors’ appointments, Kim manages to remain optimistic for the youth.

The love Kim shows for this youth is seen through their immense laughter and big smiles when she is caring for them. There is never a dull moment with this youth, and Kim is always ready for the challenge!

Kim embodies what it means to be a truly selfless and devoted caregiver.

She cares for a child who experiences daily seizures and has been airlifted to Seattle Children’s hospital multiple times for emergency care. The youth is nearly blind, unable to walk and has limited communication abilities — yet Kim never gives up. She is a constant advocate, ensuring that every possible resource and service is in place to support his medical and developmental needs. She has completely adjusted their home to accommodate his care and safety and spends countless hours at hospitals, therapies and medical appointments.

Despite the tremendous challenges, she continues to show unwavering love, patience and resilience. She has put her own life on hold to ensure that this child receives the best care possible. Her dedication, compassion and commitment truly make her an unsung hero.
