Seattle's Child

Your guide to a kid-friendly city

Classrooms might look a little different in the Seattle Public School District

If you feel like Seattle’s getting crowded, you’re right.

Current statistics indicate 1,000 people move to Seattle each week.  More families equal more students. To keep up with our growing city, Seattle Public Schools (SPS) will start the new school year with several new and modernized facilities.

According to SPS, in the last 10 years, the district has welcomed 8,000 new students. The new and modernized facilities are helping meet the district’s enrollment and capacity needs while incorporating elements designed to enhance student learning. The buildings being opened will add nearly 2,900 classroom seats.
