A 'not creepy' chance for single parents to meet other single parents

Are you a nice, single parent who just wants to meet another nice single parent? Then this event is for you!

Performing artist Jenna Bean Veatch is hosting a Not-Creepy Gathering for Parents Who Are Single and Want to Fall in Love on Friday, Nov. 9, at the Fremont Abbey.

This will be the first event specifically organized for parents, but Bean Veatch has facilitated several other “Not-Creepy” dating events to great success. Bellingham couple Etalia Slominski and Spencer Rank fell in love at a Not-Creepy gathering and just had their first “not-creepy” baby in August.

Not in the market for romantic love? Bean Veatch says this is still the event for you.

“I hope all sorts of connections come out of this,” says Bean Veatch. “Sure romantic connections, but also friend connections and finding people who can support each other in the ways that they need support.”

Free child care for up to 20 kids, including infants, will be provided in a room adjacent to the main event space.  Tickets are available from $5 to $20 on an honor system-based sliding scale. Attendees are encouraged to bring a notebook and an open mind.

“I start with humor to loosen everyone up because everyone arrives nervous. Getting people laughing is the best way I have found to help them relax and breathe and trust in me and trust in each other so they can really connect,” says Bean Veatch.

Small groups will be prompted with conversation topics — some parenting-related so they can connect over the shared experience. At the end of the night there will be an opportunity for everyone to share something with the entire group.

“If we want to make real connections, we have to be willing to show something of our real selves. Creating a safe space for risk-taking is definitely a goal,” says Bean Veatch. “Mainly I want people to leave feeling like they’ve had a positive experience, and to leave feeling good about themselves.”
