For adults:

The Village Library Demon-Hunting Society,” by C.M. Waggoner

Sherry Pinkwhistle moved to Winesap in upstate New York several years ago and has been happily serving as the town librarian and amateur sleuth ever since. Sherry is puzzled by the sheer number of murders in a town with a small population, but she doesn’t dwell on it for too long. When one particularly diabolical crime occurs, readers discover that something supernatural may be at play. This fiendishly clever book is a killer way to start leaning into your spooky fall reading. Give it to mystery fans who don’t mind a bit of a laugh over the genre’s foibles.

For kids:

Anxious,” by Luciana De Luca

A young girl is full of worries. Her world is oppressive, dark, fast and loud. Instead of making friends or playing, she wants to scream. Feeling off-balance, she asks for help, then takes a deep breath before dancing and laughing again. This spare picture book portrays the weight of anxiety, offering tips and resources for children and caregivers who struggle to identify and deal with anxiousness. Itā€™s a short and encouraging read for stressful times.

Jenna Zarzycki is an adult services librarian at KCLS who works in south King County. She adores talking about books to anyone who will listen and regularly contributes to KCLSā€™ BookMatch and booklist services. Jenna likes fantasy, romance and narrative nonfiction best, although any book has the possibility to become a new favorite. KCLS Childrenā€™s LibrarianĀ Robin HoweĀ serves her Kent Library community with tuneful Story Times and creative programs. She enjoys connecting young patrons to KCLSā€™ rich resources, and when sheā€™s not reading aloud or jumping up and down toĀ Sleeping Bunnies, sheā€™s probably knitting, traveling or making soup
