Officials of the National Merit Scholarship Corporation announced the names of two Seattle Public Schools students included in the second group of winners in the annual National Merit Scholarship Program.
The National Merit $2,500 Scholarship winners are Anthony L. Bencivengo from Nathan Hale High School, whose probable career field is playwriting, and Tara I. Martin-Chen from Garfield High School, who listed her likely career field as international relations.
The students join approximately 2,500 distinguished high school seniors who were chosen from more than 15,000 finalists nationwide. These scholarship winners, selected by a committee of college admissions officers and high school counselors, distinguished themselves as having "the strongest combination of accomplishments, skills and potential for success in rigorous college studies."
Recipients can use their awards at any regionally accredited U.S. college or university of their choice. To learn more about the program, visit www.nationalmerit.org.
