Daveed Diggs wants a ‘Puppy for Hanukkah’ in catchy song that’s perfect for kids

Watch the 'Hamilton' star's holiday video here.

Last year we got a brand-new Hanukkah pop song with a great video, too.

Daveed Diggs, one of the stars of the original Broadway phenomenon “Hamilton” (including the film) and the TV show “Black-ish,” released the new Hanukkah song “A Puppy for Hanukkah” in 2020. He isn’t in the video, but that’s him rapping and singing amid a chorus of klezmer clarinets and some funny lyrics, with a nod to the occasional disappointing Hanukkah night: “Oh, yeah. That’s just socks.”

Not every gift night can be a blowout when it’s every night for eight nights, after all.

“I was honored when Disney Channel approached me to come up with a fresh Hanukkah tune,” said Diggs in a press release, “and embraced the opportunity to share my love of music and a little piece of my culture.”

Hanukkah starts at sunset on Sunday, Nov. 28.

This updated Hanukkah song story was first published on Dec. 9, 2020.
