New Mercer Island grocery store: Kitchen & Market

Woman-run business features meal kits, local products, events

Kitchen & Market, a local grocery store and prepared-meal provider, opens Saturday, Oct. 15, on Mercer Island.

Kitchen & Market, which also has been in Pike Place Market since 2021, is a small grocery that specializes in freshly prepared foods, chef-driven meal kits, private label products and locally sourced goods. In addition, it stocks pantry staples such as bread and milk.

The store highlights local brands such as Ellenos Greek Yogurt, Rachelā€™s Ginger Beer and pasta from Ethan Stowell Restaurants.

Stephanie King founded the store, explaining, ā€œAs a working parent, preparing dinner was something I always dreaded. … I wanted options that were family
friendly, but also healthy and fast. I wanted to make grocery shopping and cooking fun.”

The store has a rotating meal-kit menu and offers delivery. Vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free options are available. In addition to meal kits, there are grab-and-go items. Prices range from $5 for side items to $65 for full dinner meals.

Kitchen & Market also plans cooking demonstrations, local pop-up events, wine tastings and holiday gatherings.

For instance, Kitchen & Market invites trick-or-treaters to visit both its stores for goodies Friday through Monday, Oct. 28-31.

“I wanted to make grocery shopping and cooking fun,” says Kitchen & Market founder Stephanie King.
