Seattle Humane Society Prepares to Help Animals from Texas Shelters in Wake of Hurricane Harvey

The Seattle Humane Society is answering the call to help animal shelters in Texas in the wake of Hurricane Harvey.

With its new building just opened, Seattle Humane has room for 300 animals coming from Texas. National nonprofit Wings of Rescue is flying the first load of shelter pets from Texas to Boeing Field this week where staff and volunteers from Seattle Humane and other local shelters will be waiting to receive them and put them up for adoption.

Seattle Humane is expecting several of these flights into Seattle within the next week or two. The organization is offering volunteer orientations for anyone who wants to become a foster parent, allowing more space in the shelter for animals displaced by the hurricane.

Seattle Humane is part of a network of shelters including Best Friends in Utah and the Humane Society of the United States that have pledged to help in large-scale national disasters.

Anyone interested in fostering or adopting a pet can visit Seattle Humane Society's website.
