Children’s author Jan Brett is celebrating the release of her new book, “Alice in a Winter Wonderland,” with a national bus tour – and she’s coming to the Northwest!
Brett is known for classics such as “The Mitten,” “The Nutcracker” and “The Snowy Nap.”

The new Jan Brett book
In the new book, which comes out Nov. 26, Brett puts a new spin on a beloved tale. The characters from “Alice in Wonderland” are reimagined as animals native to Alaska.
The Cheshire Cat, Duchess, King and Queen will still have their absurd personalities, wild antics and silliness, but they’ll be in the Alaskan tundra.
To celebrate, Brett is hopping a bus with a 23-city itinerary. Here are the local stops:
- 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, Silas High School auditorium, Tacoma; sponsored by Tacoma Public Library, Tacoma Online Elementary and King’s Books. Admission is free, but registration is required. Plus, the first 100 families in line will receive a poster signed by Brett. She will give a short book talk and drawing demonstration then will sign books for people. Also, the popular character Hedgie will be available for photos.
- 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, Bellingham High School; sponsored by Village Books. Tickets are $5 and space is limited.
Brett is the author/illustrator of more than 40 picture books for young children. They are often inspired by nature and her travels. She lives on the Massachusetts coast. Learn more on her website.
